Writing Update
Scenes Arranged: 4
Total Scenes: 21
Work is so crazy right now that I’m not getting a whole lot of time to get scenes arranged. I had three major set pieces to get in place leading up to the Inciting Incident; one of those is now done. Two more and we hit “the match” that sets off this leg of the story. I’m looking forward to it and hope I can carve some time out tomorrow to get more scenes put together.
Personal Update
My wonderful wife is living her dream job: wedding planner. She started the business last March so we’re coming up on a year in this business. We have been so immensely blessed that she just completed wedding #19 for the year and wedding #7 for the month. It’s been very busy, but it’s great. I love seeing my wife’s face light up as she fulfills her dream.
Discussion Topic – My Head Friends
This is a strange subject.
I have been working with the characters in my novel for over a decade. They have changed and evolved over time to become round people, but each one started as a kernel that was born out of a piece of my own personality. That kernel was exaggerated and then I filled in with what seemed logical. This had some side effects that I recently had to mitigate, but I’ve worked with these individuals so long that, even though they started as a part of me, they became their own and then became a part of me all over again.
They became my friends. My friends who lived in my head. My head-friends.
Because of that, they’ve taken on their own personalities to the point that, on a deep subconscious level, they direct parts of their story. I’ll go into this more tomorrow because it’s a BIG, often-misunderstood subject. For now, suffice it to say that this story (and I expect this to be the case with every other story I ever write) isn’t mine. It’s told by me, but it’s really theirs.
The fun part about Book 2 is that I get to bring in more characters that are smaller parts of my personality that I get to fill in more and more to create unique characters the likes of which I’ve never written. It’s super exciting for me. I can’t wait to see where this goes.
Did you ever have an imaginary friend as a kid? Someone who comforted you when times were scary or confusing? Let’s chat about it!
May the tides carry you to safer shores.
