Well Chat

As you can see, lots going on. On top of everything you see above, my wife completed her 39th wedding this past weekend. We have one more for the calendar year which will make a nice round FORTY since she started her company. I’m so proud of her.

Beyond that, I started The Mandolorian with my son which is ALREADY great. Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode and looking forward to more.

As to the writing journey itself, ya know, I thought I was getting into a good rhythm (tried to write that as “writhym” and feel like there’s something there) and then it fell off a cliff over the weekend. Isn’t that when you’re supposed to be able to get lots of writing done? Not for me this weekend! Still, I’m making steady progress and brushing up on the Midpoint soon. I’m really excited about it because some BIG THINGS are about to happen.

The most recent chapters have been an exercise in tobogganing. What do I mean by that? Well, let’s start here. When I read that tweet, I felt like it described perfectly the writing process itself. Countless times I have felt like I was pushing my “toboggan” over mental gravel to get to the downhill slide. Whenever that slide happens, it’s like scissors starting to glide through wrapping paper: it’s the best feeling! The words seem to fly onto the page of their own accord. If only there was a way to harness that forever.

Character interactions are more difficult for me to write than action scenes. I can see them, I understand them and how they inform character motivations and decisions, but they’re achingly hard to write. That is what I’ve been dealing with the last week as I try to slog to the Midpoint. When I get there, I’ll have several chapters that should write themselves as they’re already tightly choreographed in my mind. For now, I keep pushing and keep sledding when I can. Here’s hoping for more soon.

Oh! And I have some vacation coming up soon so I’m hoping for a massive, wordy comeback on my daily/monthly goals. Hope you have a great week!

May the tide carry you to safer shores.
